How To Prepare For Reiki Sessions & Attunements

Reiki attunements and Reiki sessions fine-tune the chakra system by releasing energy on cellular levels to restore balance and increase flow of vital life force energy.
This process naturally releases toxins on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels, similar to after effects of exercise workouts, massage therapy, physiotherapy, myofascial release, or acupuncture, for example.
Due to this release, you may experience a temporary worsening of existing symptoms, or flare up of past symptoms for 24-48 hours while your energy system recalibrates. This is natural, but always seek professional medical advice if you have any concerns as only you know your own body best.
Following the recommended steps below will help you prepare for Reiki energy and energy healing, and ensure you receive the greatest benefits:
HYDRATION
Sufficient hydration with pure water before and after energy work and/or Reiki attunements is essential for keeping life force energy (chi, ki, prana, qi) flowing, and healthy blood circulation for detoxification. It is essential for hydration on cellular levels for optimal function and health, and supports the organs in flushing out toxins. Water also promotes purification on cellular and energetic levels beyond what we see with the naked eye.
Lemon water is also an excellent way to hydrate both before and after energy healing and assist with the detoxification process if you love the taste and your body is able to tolerate lemons.
EAT LIGHTLY
Avoid too much high protein food prior to energy healing as more energy is needed for digestion therefore disturbing the balance of energy flow throughout the body. Instead, eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits, clean foods (unprocessed, free of additives and preservatives) that are easily digested and save the high protein foods until after your session.
GENTLE EXERCISE
Movement strengthens but also detoxifies, and promotes increased energy flow. A few minutes of gentle exercise such as yoga, stretching, or focused breathing prior to energy work supports the flow of life force energy in the body which helps with increased receptivity. Post session, exercise supports the detoxification process.
WHAT TO AVOID
Avoid stimulants such as alcohol, caffeine, and recreational drugs.
COMFORT
Wear comfortable clothing, to help you feel as relaxed as possible.
AMBIANCE
Locate yourself in a quiet, cozy space where your session won't be disturbed or interrupted! If you love working with essential oils consider diffusing or wearing your favourite oil to help you feel more relaxed.
WHAT TO EXPECT
During energy healings or Reiki attunements you may temporarily feel:
Warmth or coolness,
Tingling in the palms of the hands or soles of the feet
Deep relaxation
See colours or visuals
Deep emotions rise to the surface, such as crying (emotional release and relief)
Old symptoms may temporarily flare up
OR, you may feel no responses at all.
